The movie ends when Magnifico attempts to cross the street and instead gets fatally hit by a car. Kahanga-hangang bagama't madalas sa minsan ay hindi nasusuklian ang kabutihan ni Magnifico, patuloy pa rin siya sa kanyang mabuting hangarin. Nonetheless, Magnifico applies himself diligently to the task, concocting a remedy for the mortician's ailments, playing matchmaker for his love struck brother, industriously scheming to provide a burial gown and coffin for his grandmother, and negotiating a wheelchair so he can take his invalid sister to the carnival. The movie was a welcome change after I had viewed scores of Hollywood flicks. I cried while watching the movie. One will hardly notice it unless he or she is a videophile.
This is the type of film that, although it is not heavily marketed I was in the Philippines in 2003, all year, and never have I seen an ad for it , will spread its magnificence through people. All that said, there are redeeming aspects. Personally, I think it is one of the best Filipino films ever made, and its two awards from the Berlin Film Festival should serve as proof of its greatness. A must see for the family. This was not expected, for a Filipino film at least.

In the past Filipino films have been guilty of getting a thin story and stretching it for the film star. Nag-isip din sila ng paraan upang makalikom ng sapat na pera at puspusang inasikaso ni Magnifico ang bawat detalye sa magiging libing ng kanyang mahal na lola. How is he dealt with? This movie has also been the best picture in other Film Festivals as well. Do you find it offensive? Magnifico is truly a magnificent film, no exceptions. The ending is cheesy, predictable and far from original. Like Milan, the powers that be are thinking about the story a bit more. He sets out to earn enough money for his grandmother's funeral, buy her a beautiful white dress to be buried in and gather enough scrap wood to build the coffin himself. This is for the sensitive moviegoers, cynics shouldn't even bother to try it! The acting of the other cast were also really good especially for the seasoned actors and actresses like Lorna Tolentino Pikoy's mother , Gloria Romero who played the bedridden grandmother and Albert Martinez the father. It was well advertised too that so many fliers and leaflets were given away in all Filipino shops, remittance office, Filipino beauty saloons and anywhere as long as there is Filipino.
This is one of those Filipino cinematic gems. My incoherency is annoying even myself, so let's cut this short. I believe that viewers around the world should not be deprived of movies such as this, which offer the message of hope and love, as opposed to the depravity prevalent in today's cinema. I would of liked to see the reasons the older brother did not like school, and a bit more of Magnificoes friend, but overall it was a good film. The movie champions teamwork -- especially teamwork involving people of different races, cultures, and walks of life.
